DOWSE is the design company of Susannah Dowse. Offering a commitment to making carefully designed, thoughtfully made jewellery and lifestyle products and always made in Britain. Believing that beauty in an object comes in part from how it is made and by whom, we will never send our designs to a faceless factory in a far flung place where we can't be sure someone isn't being exploited for our benefit. We will use local businesses with people we know are fairly paid for their work. We won't be racking up thousands of air miles to get our products to you. We try and make our products in the most efficient way we can find to minimise waste, and endeavour to source the most responsible materials we can.
The Brighton Shop
A showcase for the DOWSE range alongside the best British and European designers. Championing great quality, innovative and affordable British and European made design led gifts, jewellery, art prints and homewares. We support and promote the efforts of those designing and making their work themselves, not the big companies who copy their ideas and mass manufacture them in the far east.
We are always interested in seeing the work of designers who feel their work fits our ethos and aesthetic. Feel free to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org with examples of your work with your wholesale information. Due to the high number of people who contact us it is however unfortunate that we're not always able to reply and give direct feedback.

Born in Berlin and having spent her childhood in Germany, England and the USA, Susannah Dowse gained a degree in Fine Art from the University of Brighton before indulging her childhood dream and becoming a fashion and print designer, working freelance in the industry for many varied clients. Susannah was also head designer at the award-winning Remade clothing label. Lectured in fashion and sustainable design at the University of Portsmouth and Winchester School of Art. Also previously in design partnership Ridley & Dowse.
We recommend keeping your jewellery in it's packaging or in a sealed container. A zip lock plastic bag is a good way to do this. This will slow down the tarnish on the silver chain and ear wires. Store jewellery separately to avoid scratching. Damp and hot conditions causes all jewellery to tarnish quickly so please avoid. Apply perfumes or cosmetics before you put on your jewellery, applying directly to jewellery will effect it's condition. The silver chain and steel units can simply be washed with hot soapy water. The brass jewellery has a coating to delay tarnishing. As with any brass product it will darken in time. You may like this effect and wish to leave it as it is. If you wish to maintain the brighter finish clean first with nail varnish remover and follow by using a domestic brass cleaning product. Wash well with hot soapy water. In some very rare cases some peoples skin ph levels may create premature tarnishing of the brass. If in this scenario this happens to you please contact us and we will swap your piece for a steel version
